The rue du Bac got its name from the "bac", or boat, that was used in the past to convey, on the Seine river, the stones needed to build the Louvre palace. This street is located on the eastern side of the "Carré Rive Gauche", local association of art galleries and antiques, and famous rendez-vous of the chic and the unexpected.

A walk in this quartier, from the quai Anatole France to the crossroads of the boulevard Saint-Germain, is a real treat for every art connoisseur. In its northern part, bordering the Seine river, the street becomes narrower, and reminds us of the oldness of all this area. The buildings here house some of the most exclusive apartments of Paris. The neighboring Rue de Lille will bring strollers to the nearby Orsay Museum.
